Everything Has A Story #9

This One Is Short & Sweet

The  20th Century Handcrafted Medicine Cabinet

is Primitive Style

and Antique STYLE

It Is Not An Antique

but built from reclaimed wood that might be that old.

Did you spot the old LIFEBUOY SOAP?
It's truly a survivor to last so long in the original packaging.

One of the older Grandsons left this 'love note'
I found it after they had been here for a visit

An Antiquer friend of ours in southeast Texas
Howard Pyle built this for us

I think we paid our friend somewhere in the one hundred
dollar range-more or less for this piece certainly less than
it's value to us now.

Old shaving Mugs, old razors and two brushes-
Do you recall seeing a Grandpa lathering up with a
Brush as he started to shave? I remember seeing my
Grandpa Mobley doing that.

I am sharing over at Theresa's This Week

Will You Join us?

Another [pottery] shaving mug
We use it for soap after my
husband made a wire drain for
the base so the soap wouldn't
get soggy.

  1. I remember Grandpa Mobley shaving too. I was loved his mustache.

  2. Love this! && all of the fun stuff on top. There is a barber shop, here, that still lathers up the mens' faces, and shaves them with a straight razor after each hair cut. Gary loves to go in there... His face is so smooth when he leaves, but those things look so sharp! Haha! Scary!

  4. that's a beautiful cabinet .. the wood truly looks to be vintage. very nice workmanship. :)

my paternal grandfather was a barber for the US Navy at the Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois, during WW2 and forward. he passed on almost 50 years ago. in addition to being a USN barber, he owned a barber shop with his twin brother.. i recall many an afternoon spent there listening to the men speak in the old world tongue (serbian) and my grandfather cutting and snipping, and shaving the men. sweet memory - thank you for jogging it. :)
